Qdot doesn't offer shortcuts, recycled templates or certificate mills. As an ISO 20700 certified consultancy, we run every project through a structured methodology refined over 832 consultancy projects since 2016. For businesses in Oman, our nine-step ISO certification process takes you from first assessment to certificate award and then keeps your system healthy afterwards, with clear planning, customised documentation and accountable audit support at every stage.
Whether you are working towards ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 22000, ISO 27001, ISO 22301 or another internationally recognised standard, this is the process we use to get your organisation certified by a certification body accredited by an Global ACI MRA signatory for your scope.
Why This ISO Methodology Works for Omani Businesses
Most ISO certification projects stall or disappoint for one of three reasons: generic documents that don't match how the company really works, staff who disengage the moment the consultant leaves, and thin audit preparation that results in avoidable non-conformities. Our methodology is designed to remove all three.
Three principles sit behind every step:
- Tailored, not templated. Each manual, procedure and form is written around your actual processes rather than lifted from a stock library.
- Skills that stay with your team. Your people learn the system and take ownership of it, so it keeps running long after audit day.
- Independence from certification bodies. We are a pure consultancy. We don't issue certificates, and we only recommend certification bodies accredited by UKAS, EIAC, DAkkS or another Global ACI MRA signatory for the relevant scope.
The Qdot 9-Step ISO Certification Methodology
This is the process we follow with every client across Oman, including Muscat, Sohar, Salalah, Sur, Nizwa and Duqm.
Step 1: Kick-Off Meeting
Every project opens with a kick-off meeting at your premises. Our consultant sits down with senior management, your quality or compliance team and the key process owners to learn about your business model, organisational structure, sites in scope, products and services, customers, and the reasons behind your decision to certify.
Together we fix the project scope, agree milestones and realistic timelines, and name a project champion on your side. When the meeting ends, both teams share the same objectives, know how they will communicate, and understand how much of your staff's time the project will need.
Deliverable: A signed project charter, scope statement and initial schedule.
Step 2: Planning
With the scope agreed, our consultant builds a detailed project plan that maps every deliverable, site visit, training session, documentation milestone and internal audit against a realistic calendar.
We also shortlist certification bodies accredited by Global ACI MRA signatories that suit your industry, scope and budget, prepare a comparative quotation request, and set out who is responsible for what. Qdot works with certification bodies such as SGS, Bureau Veritas, Intertek, FAHSS, DNV, TÜV SÜD, URS, KBS, TÜV Rheinland and TÜV Apex (Normeira), subject to each body's current accredited scopes.
Deliverable: A detailed project plan, a certification body comparison sheet and a clear responsibility matrix.
Step 3: Gap Analysis (System As-Is Study)
The gap analysis is the diagnostic core of the project. Our consultant interviews your managers and staff, reviews the documents you already have, watches how work is actually done, and measures your current position against every clause of the ISO standard.
The result shows where you already comply, where you comply in part, and where new processes or documents are needed. Because everything that follows rests on this evidence, we never recommend unnecessary paperwork and never repeat work you have already done well.
Deliverable: A comprehensive Gap Analysis Report mapped clause by clause to the standard.
Step 4: Awareness Training
Before any document is written, your team needs to know what ISO certification involves, why the organisation is pursuing it, and what part each person plays. Our consultant runs a hands-on awareness training session shaped around the specific standard, your industry, and the language and literacy profile of your workforce.
This step matters because a management system only works when the people doing the job understand it. Sessions are practical and interactive, built on examples from your own workplace rather than abstract theory.
Deliverable: Employees with a working understanding of the standard, plus attendance records that serve as audit evidence.
Step 5: Documentation Development
Drawing on the gap analysis, our consultant writes your complete management system documentation: the manual, mandatory procedures, work instructions, forms, registers, risk assessments, objectives and the records the standard requires.
Every document is built around how your business operates, with no boilerplate. Your staff are not asked to write anything, though we do need their cooperation in interviews and document reviews. You receive a first draft, we refine it with your feedback, and we finalise it only after your sign-off.
Deliverable: A fully customised, signed-off management system documentation package.
Step 6: Training on the Developed System
Once the documents are final, our consultant trains your team on the system itself. This is different from awareness training: staff learn the exact procedures, forms and records they will use every day, and selected team members attend a dedicated internal auditor training course.
By the end, each process owner knows which documents apply to their function, how to complete the records, and how to show compliance during an audit. Your internal auditors are ready to run the first audit cycle on their own.
Deliverable: Process-owner training, internal auditor training and competence records for each session.
Step 7: Implementation Support
Documents only count if the system is actually running. Our consultant returns to your site to help your team put the new procedures into practice, generate real records, carry out the first internal audit, raise and close non-conformities, and hold the first formal management review meeting.
We also help you set, track and evaluate management system objectives and key performance indicators, which the certification body auditor will expect to see at stage 2.
Deliverable: A completed internal audit report, management review minutes, closed non-conformities and a system that is running, not just written down.
Step 8: Certification Audit Support
When the system has matured and the internal audit cycle is complete, we coordinate the certification audit with your chosen certification body, which must be accredited by an Global ACI MRA signatory for your scope. A Qdot consultant is physically present with your team at both the stage 1 (documentation review) and stage 2 (implementation) audits.
During the audit we keep the process running smoothly, help your people answer the auditor's questions, make sure the auditor stays within international accreditation rules and doesn't impose requirements that don't exist, and help you close any minor or major non-conformities.
Deliverable: Completed stage 1 and stage 2 audits, closed non-conformities and the certification body's recommendation for certification.
Step 9: Post-Certification & Surveillance Support
Getting the certificate is the start of the next phase, not the finish line. Certification runs for three years, with surveillance audits in years 1 and 2 and a full recertification audit in year 3. Qdot stays with you through each surveillance audit, each recertification and each revision of the standard.
That support is why 95% of our clients stay with us long term. We help you maintain the system, refresh your internal audits, update documents when a standard changes, and keep your certificate valid year after year.
Deliverable: Continuing support through annual surveillance audits, recertification cycles and continual improvement of your management system.

How Long Does ISO Certification Take in Oman?
A small company of 10 to 20 staff certifying to a single standard such as ISO 9001 can typically expect 45 to 60 days from kick-off to the stage 2 audit. Larger organisations, multi-site engagements and integrated management system projects covering several standards take longer.
Six factors shape the timeline:
- Scope of work and the number of standards involved
- Total headcount and number of sites in scope
- Staff competence and the existing quality culture
- Complexity of your products, services and processes
- Maturity of any existing management system
- How available and cooperative your team is
Faster programmes are available on request, depending on feasibility and your team's capacity to take on the extra workload.
How ISO Certification Pricing Works

FAQs
The work can be grouped into four broad phases (gap analysis, documentation, implementation and audit), but nine steps give you a clearer, more accountable picture of what happens and when. Each step has its own deliverable, which makes progress easy to track and stops essential stages such as awareness training and post-certification surveillance support from being treated as afterthoughts.
A small company of 10 to 20 staff certifying to one standard can typically expect 45 to 60 days from kick-off to the stage 2 audit. Multi-standard, multi-site or larger projects take longer depending on scope, complexity and how available your team is.
The nine steps stay the same for every standard, but what happens inside each step is tailored to the standard and to your business. The gap analysis, documents and training for ISO 27001 look very different from those for ISO 22000, even though the stages are identical.
Qdot consultants write the full management system documentation. Your staff are not given writing assignments, but we do need their time for interviews, evidence gathering and document review so that the system reflects how your business really works.
Yes. A Qdot consultant is physically present with your team at both the stage 1 and stage 2 certification audits, supporting your responses, making sure the auditor stays within international accreditation rules, and helping close any non-conformities.
ISO certificates run for three years, with surveillance audits in years 1 and 2 and a recertification audit in year 3. Qdot supports you through every one of them. 95% of our clients stay with us year after year.
No. Qdot is an ISO consultancy, not a certification body. Your certificate is always issued by an independent certification body accredited by an Global ACI MRA signatory for your scope. Keeping consulting and certification separate protects the integrity of the certificate, and any organisation claiming to do both is engaging in malpractice.
Yes, provided the certification body is accredited for your scope by UKAS, EIAC, DAkkS or another Global ACI MRA signatory. We do not work with unaccredited certificate mills.
